A new dimension of inner strength
According to conventional wisdom, if you want to impart special properties to a standard steel, you have to add expensive alloying elements or subject the steel to complex additional treatment stages. Thanks to Steeltec’s XTP® Technology that is no longer the case! XTP® Technology is a unique approach that involves subjecting steel to controlled thermomechanical treatment. By carefully controlling the temperature profiles and the bulk forming forces to which the steel is exposed, we can produce an extremely homogeneous, fine-grained steel microstructure with a grain size of less than 5 µm. The result is a steel with improved properties and enhanced dynamic and mechanical performance:
- Improved low-temperature toughness down to -101 °C for greater reliability in low-temperature applications
- Increased tensile strength of up to 2050 MPa
- Dynamic strength increased by at least ten percent, leading to extended tool lives and improved operational safety
- Higher resistance to crack propagation
- Significantly improved isotropic properties
- Ductility and machinability remain unchanged
- Components can be redimensioned without loss of physical and mechanical properties – making component design more flexible
- Bar stock exhibits a very high degree of straightness. Bar lengths of up to 8000 (-0/+200) mm can be supplied with tolerances that conform to ISO tolerance class h11 (see DIN EN ISO 286-2).
- No thermal distortion and no need for additional heat treatment.
